A. Swingline™ Stack-and-Shred™ Hands Free Shredders feature innovative Auto+ technology that allows you to insert between 60 and 750 sheets (depending on model) and walk away. The shredder has rollers that automatically feed each sheet, one at a time, through the cutters to effectively shred with no manual feeding required.
A. For the 60X model: In the unlikely event of a jam, the unit will stop shredding. Empty the waste bin. Attempt to clear the jam by sliding the switch in the front to the reverse position, pause and then slide it to the forward position. Return to Auto mode to resume shredding. If the jam persists, you will need to clear it manually. Press the reverse button to return as much paper as possible and then turn the shredder off using the ON/OFF switch on the back of the machine, and unplug it. Pull the jammed papers free of the cutters. To resume shredding, set the shredder to Auto and turn it on using the switch on the back of the machine.
For the 80X, 100X, 200X and 100M models with Intelligent Auto+® Jam Clearance: During auto shredding the unit will go through reverse and forward cycles on its own, which will resolve most jams. If the jam persists, you will need to open the lid and clear the jammed papers manually.
For the 300X, 500X, 750X, 300M, 500M and 750M models with Intelligent Auto+® Jam Clearance and Intelligent Interactive Jam Clearance: During auto shredding the unit will go through reverse and forward cycles on its own, which will resolve most jams. If the jam persists, the jam symbol on the LED panel will illuminate. The forward and reverse buttons also have built-in LED lights that will blink and alternate to indicate which button to press to clear the jam. If the jam persists, you will need to open the lid and clear the jammed papers manually.
A. Check the stack of papers for crumpled, folded or glossy sheets or unopened envelopes. Remove these and feed them through the manual slot. Also check the indicator panel. If the cool-down indicator is red, simply allow the shredder to cool. Shredding will resume automatically. If the bin door or bin full indicators are lit, empty the bin and makes sure that the bin door is fully closed. Shredding will resume automatically. Finally, examine the rollers. Clean off any accumulated paper dust with a dry cloth.
A. The auto-start infrared sensor, located in the paper feed entry slot, may occasionally become covered in paper dust. This will cause the shredder to run despite the fact that no paper is being fed into the machine. Switch the shredder off at the rear of the machine, unplug it and carefully clean the sensor using a cotton swab.
A. With a Hands Free Shredder, the paper need to pass through the autofeed chamber before the papers meets the cutters. For this reason, the manual feed slot has been designed to be extremely easy to insert paper into.
A. After the bin has been removed and replaced, the shredder will run for approximately 8 seconds to clear away any remaining paper in the cutters.
A. Enter your PIN to unlock the door and clear the jam. The machine will also stop shredding automatically if a jam occurs and the shredder will consequently unlock and turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity. After clearing the jam, you need to reload the shredder before you can relock it.
A. No. The shredder will register the four digit PIN code each time which allows you to change your PIN number every time you use the shredder.
A. Re-entering your four digit PIN code stops the shredder and unlocks the paper loading door.
A. If an incorrect PIN code is entered 3 times, the locking mechanism will not accept anymore entries. The loading door will remain locked until shredding is complete.
